The major risks of unprotected exposure to welding light are: actinic conjunctivitis (short exposure), cataract (long exposure) and burnt skin. The latter can even lead to skin cancer. The welder protects himself with a welding mask and protective clothing. However, bystanders are exposed to the same risks. The protection of bystanders in the vicinity of the welding area therefore plays an important role in the prevention of long absences through illness.
When shielding the welding area from other work areas, it is extremely important that the area remains visible from the outside. A welding curtain should be made from transparent material, not only to supervise the progress of the work but also to be able to react rapidly to calamities. Moreover, this eliminates any claustrophobic feelings of the welder.
Safety measures in welding areas are compulsory by law. Welding curtains should comply with the European EN-1598 standard which establishes the requirements regarding welding light filtration, self-extinction (flame resistance), UV stability and warning signs. Failure to comply with these regulations can lead to problems with the labour inspectorate and with the court of course if negligence can be proven in the case of accidents. The refurbishment of a welding work area is also a good opportunity to take a close look at efficiency.
CEPROŽ offers a large range of welding light filtration products which all filter harmful welding light.
All CEPROŽ products have been approved according to the European EN-1598 standard and are regularly retested and re-certified. Therefore customers are always assured of obtaining a safe product. The standard establishes requirements with regard to:
Filtration of harmful ultraviolet (UV) and still visible blue light radiation.
UV stability. This feature allows an approved CEPROŽ product to offer long term filtration properties.
Flame extinction; if a CEPROŽ curtain catches fire, the material will extinguish automatically after the seat of the fire has been extinguished.
CEPROŽ products offer protection. They prevent actinic conjunctivitis, cataract, burnt skin, create a safe environment for bystanders and considerably reduce medical costs.
CEPROŽ supplies transparent welding curtains in three different colours:
CEPROŽ Orange-CE, CEPROŽ Bronze-CE and Cepro Green-6. These colours provide excellent filters against harmful welding light and also offer protection against irritating (not harmful) welding light.
A good view of the work area not only increases the safety but also eliminates feelings of isolation of the welder.
CEPROŽ also supplies a Green-9 colour. Separations of this material are opaque and extremely suitable for the shielding of several separate welding work areas without causing any nuisance to other welders.
The CEPROŽ range includes a large variety of products such as:
- Flexible curtains for the shielding of large surfaces.
- Strips (2 of 3 mm thick) for situations where mechanical load-bearing capacity is required and material, for instance long work pieces, has to be transported to any random place.
One mm thick sheets for large surfaces which allow the transit of materials to each work area.
Two mm thick sheets for the shielding of large surfaces which also provide a high mechanical load-bearing capacity.
Each of these CEPROŽ products has been developed for use in specific working conditions for the optimal fit-out of a workplace.
